“It was clear that my main focus was the three major goals of SAS: To protect our waves, all water users and the environment… We all have a part to play. Every single one of us makes a difference. This is an amazing force when we all work together.”

Cosmic started working with Quiksilver at the Boardmasters event in August 2009.  Both Quiksilver and SAS were stoked to get a local artist who shares a passion for surf and the ocean on board with this project.

About SAS and Quiksilver:

2010 is an important year for Surfers Against Sewage, as it celebrates its' 20th anniversary, which is a testament to just how successful its campaigns have been over the years. Launched in 1990, SAS was famed for their hard-hitting campaign actions and gas masked surfers hitting the beaches, which helped expose and tackle the then chronic sewage issue around the UK to great effect. SAS has today developed a broad environmental remit helping protect the UK's waves, oceans and beaches from current pollution and development threats.

The new ‘Protect Our Waves' campaign helps protect UK surf spots from environmental damage, negative impacts on wave quality and to safeguard surfers' right of access to the best waves in the country. SAS aims to protect the coastal environment for everyone to enjoy and safeguard all our beaches and oceans for future generations to come.

This is an issue close to the heart of Quiksilver, as the company's heritage stands with the mountain and the sea. For years, they have actively engaged in charitable activities both locally and globally. Aiming for their philanthropic work to have an impact beyond what they do as one company and believe they can do this by coordinating the support of other like-minded organizations and people.

To join the wave of support for SAS and for more information on all the campaigns please

The team down at Euroglass, Hossegor, have been rocking the Tees to show a bit of support for the campaign.  Gracey doesn't like to surf in poop….

Quiksilver and Red Bull Announce the Europe Premiere of Julian Wilson’s New Film “Scratching The Surface”

ID-250151-1-scratch.jpg

St Jean de Luz. (August 12, 2010)—“Scratching The Surface,” the highly anticipated first feature-length HD surf film starring Julian Wilson, debuts this month with a premiere on Wednesday, August 18 at 10pm, at the Place des Landais (Hossegor), following by a huge after party at the legendary “Rockfood “.

“I'm really proud of this film and grateful I had the opportunity to create something unique in surf filmmaking,” said Julian. “I wanted to make a film before I got sucked into full-time competition and demanding schedule that goes along with it. So instead of competing last year, I put my heart and soul into this project because I didn't know when I'd ever get the chance again.”

Directed by Matt Beauchesne at Irons Brothers Productions, “Scratching the Surface” documents the adventures of Julian, along with friends and fellow professionals Dane Reynolds, Taj Burrow, Dusty Payne, Mick Fanning and others as they spend a year hitting some of the world's most beautiful surf spots. Destinations include South Africa, Australia, Indonesia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, California, Hawaii, France, Spain and Brazil.  A large part of the film was also shot in the Mentawai Islands of Indonesia on a boat trip with Dane, Dusty and Taj. “Scratching The Surface” also teamed Julian and Matt with Brain Farm Cinema, whose goal was to evolve the way surf films are made by utilizing helicopters and the Phantom camera, shooting entirely in HD, and incorporating an energetic and unique soundtrack.

“Our goal with this film was to be creative, have fun, and enjoy capturing what it is like to be Julian Wilson,” says Matt Beauchesne. “Julian has a bright and vibrant personality that we wanted to carry over into the film's overall feel. He is living every kid's dream and we wanted to shoot this film through his eyes.”

To get an early peek of this groundbreaking film, the “Scratching The Surface” trailer and webisodes can be viewed at www.quiksilver.com & www.julianwilson.com

Travis Rice Named Champion At 2010 World Heli Challenge

ID-250148-1-Sans-titre-1.jpg

Competitors at the 2010 World Heli Challenge  in New Zealand last week woke up to a heavy inversion and there was no question about whether the Extreme Day would run. Bound and determined to make the day a success, event founder Tony Harrington and technical director, Nick Mills, headed out in a helicopter through breaking cloud to assess the situation. Breaking through the cloud they found the perfect venue for the day's contest and in the end it was an epic day in the mountains. Highlights included Quiksilver team rider Travis Ride wowing judges with a crazy line and a near disaster when Ted Davenport set off a class two avalanche that he managed to ski out of.

The winners in each category get free entry to the 2011 World Heli Challenge. Snowboarders also get free entry to King of the Hill event in Alaska while Skiers receive the same for the return of the World Extreme Skiing Championships, also in Alaska. Congratulations to Travis Rice!

Ramzi Boukhiam 2nd at the Santa Pro Junior

ID-250146--1-Sans-titre-1.jpg

In the Crosshairs: the European Junior Champion Title

Ramzi Boukhiam finished 2nd in the Santa Pro Junior, the third stage of the ASP European Junior Championship, which was held from August 4 to 8, 2010 in the Canary Islands (Spain).

The 16 year old surfer and Quiksilver team member, who is a native of Agadir, delivered a laudable performance by finishing 2nd in this stage of the Santa Pro Junior, which now places him third in the ASP European Pro Junior rankings, ahead of the final event scheduled to be held in Lacanau August 13 to 16.

The winner of the 2009 European final of the Quiksilver King of the Groms achieved his best performance here, only conceding to Portugal's Felipe Jervis in the final.

Ramzi asserted that he was "ready" for the next Pro Junior, the final stage of the ASP European Junior Championships, where he will launch a serious bid in the quest for the 2010 title.

The young Moroccan from the Netherlands started surfing at age 9, having taken to the water at the urging of his older brother Samir. Discovered on the beaches near his hometown of Agadir, he entered in a local competition at the tender age of 10 and won a ticket to the finals of the Capbreton Grommet Trophy (now King of the Groms). Too young to compete, he was only able to participate the following year, when Quiksilver took him under its wings. Ramzi very quickly started delivering the results, in the process becoming Moroccan Champion in 2004, 2005 and 2006. He ranked fourth in the European Championship in 2008 and 2009, in the “Cadet” (under 16) division and also won the Rip Curl Grom Search Europe competition in 2008.

Ramzi soon caught the fancy of Moroccan production company, “Never Seen” which in 2009 produced a documentary about his unusual journey. The 52 minute feature "La perle du désert (The Desert Pearl)” allows the viewer to share the adventure alongside this young surfing prodigy
