Euskadi’s Aritz Aranburu wins the WQS 6 star event Maresia Surf International in Brazil

Euskadi's Quiksilver Team surfer, Aritz Aranburu, today won the Maresia Surf International, a WQS 6 star event, at Praia Mole beach in Florianopolis/Santa Caterina (Brazil).
This is the greatest result of the 24 year european ripper's career.

Started on May 18, this major WQS Tour leg gathered 145 athletes and a massive contingent of Brazilians. The Zarautz born surfer had to eliminate loads of strong local contenders for the podium on his way to the victory. Among them, Halley Batista and Heitor Alves in 1/16 finals, then Leandro Bastos in quarters, Ibelli Caio n semis and last, the 36 year old Brazilian expert Rodrigo Dornelles in the final. The weakness of his best waves scores (3 points and 3,67 points) illustrate the hard time Dornelles had against Aritz Aranburu n the last heat of the event. The Euskadi surfer took advantage of his first good wave – a 5,67 one – before increasing his advance with a solid 7 points (final score 12,67/20 for Aritz vs 6,67/20 for Dornelles).

With this fantastic win, Aritz Aranburu gets 20000 US$ prize money and 3000 points on the International ASP ranking. Those precious points will help him keeping alive his ambitions of getting back to ASP World Tour. After 2 years on the Dream Tour in 2008 and 2009, Aritz was relegated to WQS Tour. He was n°60 of ASP ranking before the event, today's win he's powered to rank n°35.

IT’S MY BOARDSHORT !

ID-250136-1-CreateBSHT.jpg

Quiksilver launches, a new site dedicated to the customisation of boardshorts: myboardshort.com

Back in 1969 you ordered your Quiksilver boardshorts the same way you ordered your surfboard. You walked into the little shop on Pearl Street, Torquay, you picked the fabric and style that rocked your boat, and came back the following day to collect your shorts after they'd been sewn by hand overnight.

Now, on myboardshort.com, you budding designers out there will have the opportunity to personalise and create ‘My Boardshort', your own signature model.

The Quiksilver Custom Boardshort range features Quiksilver's Diamond Dobby technology, the most comfortable and high performance material in the Quiksilver range – virtually weightless, rash-free and with remarkable stretch and fabric memory. These unique creations are handmade in the workshops of Quiksilver Europe (St Jean De Luz) and then delivered to your door within a month.

One word of advice: Everything is customisable on these boardies: Stud fasteners or cord ties; 3 lengths; various sizes and a choice of 10 colours and 3 prints to form the 4-panel boardshort. Pick your waistband and pocket positions, add 2 possible logos and, to finish, add your own personal touch by signing your signature boardshort.

Thousands of combinations…

Be unique! Enjoy…

QUIKSILVER MARK RICHARDS TOUR

ID-236-2-en-regle-MR.jpg

Ocean Sports, Hove.

Australian surfing icon Mark Richards will be visiting one of Quiksilver's exclusive Union stores, Ocean Sports, Hove, on Sunday 23rd May at 2pm.

Mark Richards, known as MR, became one of the world's greatest surfing legends after winning 4 ASP world champion titles between the years of '79 to '82.  He was famous for branding his surfboards with the superman logo using his own initials!

Born in Australia in 1957, MR started surfing at a very young age and soon came good. By the mid 70's Mark was winning high profile surf contests and making a name for himself. Mark took to shaping his own boards, and developed his own custom shortboard, with a winged swallow tail and twin-fin.  He quickly excelled to the top, and was nicknamed 'The Wounded Gull', due to his 'swooping' turns.

By 1979, Mark had mastered his twin-fin board and won the World Title... for four consecutive years.  He more recently returned to win the 2001 over 40's World Masters Championship. Mark Richards is truly a great champion surfer.

MR is hugely respected as one of the greatest surfers of all time, the true twin fin pioneer and infamous surf board shaper.  MR's tour comes in time for the launch of his exclusive collaboration with Quiksilver which was inspired by MR's legacy in the surfing world.

Exclusively for Quiksilver Union surf shops for May, the collection including 16'' and 21'' board shorts with custom embroidery, screen printed organic cotton tees, and a trucker hat create this ensemble of a one of a kind vintage collection.  Mark Richards said ‘' Really Impressive!!! You'll laugh… But where can I get this stuff! ‘'

Meet Mark Richards, Sunday May 23rd, at Ocean Sports, 368 Kingsway, Hove, BN3 4QT!

ID-250135-1-newsV2.jpg

Dimitri Ouvré (Fra), Under 18 European Champion; Vasco Ribeiro (Por) dominates U 16

The 2010 European Youth Surfing Championships ended on Sunday 16th of May on Viana Do Castelo beach located in the north of Portugal.

The week started successfully for the Roxy Team thanks to Maud Lecar's win in the Ladies competition. The 17 year old Saint-Martin Island surfer took her first continental victory and brought Team France its first title of the week.

Sunday was the U-18 Men's final and this time a Quiksilver surfer, Dimitri Ouvré, took the European crown in the main event in front of local surfer Federico Morais (Por).

In the Under 16 category, another Quiksilver boy got the ISA Continental title. Vasco Ribeiro (Por) easily defeated french fellows Andy Criere, 2nd and Tom Cloarec, 4th. The Portugese surfer won the final heat with 17,33 points - almost 5 points ahead of Criere.

The excellent 3rd place of Italian Rookie, Leonardo Fioravanti in the Under 14 final (won by Frenchman Nelson Cloarec) is also a great result for Quiksilver Team, proud to have such a promising surfer in the family.
