Travis Rice Named Champion At 2010 World Heli Challenge

Competitors at the 2010 World Heli Challenge in New Zealand last week woke up to a heavy inversion and there was no question about whether the Extreme Day would run. Bound and determined to make the day a success, event founder Tony Harrington and technical director, Nick Mills, headed out in a helicopter through breaking cloud to assess the situation. Breaking through the cloud they found the perfect venue for the day's contest and in the end it was an epic day in the mountains. Highlights included Quiksilver team rider Travis Ride wowing judges with a crazy line and a near disaster when Ted Davenport set off a class two avalanche that he managed to ski out of.
The winners in each category get free entry to the 2011 World Heli Challenge. Snowboarders also get free entry to King of the Hill event in Alaska while Skiers receive the same for the return of the World Extreme Skiing Championships, also in Alaska. Congratulations to Travis Rice!
QUIKSILVER'S UK SNOWBOARD TEAM

The Quiksilver team had a great British Champs coming away with10 podiums! Jamie Nicholls still in the youth category at the ageof 16 completely dominated all Mens competitions. First up was the eagerly anticipated Big Air , warm slushy conditions led the riders to reshape the jump themselves with the run in speed changing constantly. The standard was higher than ever with the top three all throwing down doubles. Jamie landed a near perfect backside double cork 1080 but was just pipped by Billy Morgan with a frontside double cork 1080 having to settle for second place
Slightly disappointed Jamie set about winning the Half Pipe the next day his least favourite event. Only deciding to enter at the last minute after learning a run that morning he felt would be good enough to place. Jamie won the Mens overall event with a super clean run beating former Olympian Dan Wakeham and various other team GB half pipe riders.
To round the week off Jamie won the Overall Mens Slpoestyle which was cut down to a rail jam due to the unpredictable weather. Impressing the judges with his smooth style and tech tricks doing a 50 50 to front flip off one of the rails and backside disaster revert on the wall ride.
Henry Shackelton came away with three Bronze medals in the Youth Mens category. Taking bronze in the Boardercross , Big Air and Half Pipe. Making the senior mens Half Pipe final and coming 12th overall. Ollie Jackson also got on the podium with a bronze medal in the junior mens Half Pipe.

After just one season on snow 16 year old Jamie Nicholls has scored his first front cover on french magazine Snowsurf! From hitting his first powder kicker ( check it out on Mpora) , making the finals of the Burton European Open to winning the Half Pipe and Slopestyle at the Brits , plus many photo shoots in between it's been an epic first season on snow ! I'm sure it's the first of many front cover! Next stop New Zealand .
Jamie Nicholls wins Vans Dawn of the Shred

With Scotland having one of the best snow season in a long time this years Vans Dawn of the Shred turned out to be one of the best comps the UK has ever seen . Due to the snow the Aviemore park team were able to build the biggest kicker the UK has ever seen . In Jamie's own words, " It was massive at least 23 meters . The air time was ridiculous !" The weather was perfect and a mix of local talent and seasoned pros made for the perfect comp .
Jamie came away with the honors doing massive back 7 double grabs . Adding another title to his collection and rounding off his season nicely , well almost he has now been invited to the Mammoth Superpark session which takes place at the start of May . A get together for the who's who of snowboarding and the US media . We look forward to seeing the results from that trip !
