KING THE GROMS SERIES 2009, IRELAND, ROSSNOWLAGH

Despite average conditions of 3ft waves and an overcast setting there was a great turn out of Groms for this years Irish King of the Groms. For the first time in Rossnowlagh, Quiksilver registered 60 enthrusiastic groms - which goes to show's that Irish surfing is on the up! Quiksilver Pro Surfer Spencer Hargraves has been managing the UK KOTGS Series to seek out new young talent for Quiksilver; "It's always a pleasure working with the ISA and a great location for the KOTGS. It was flat for three weeks before this event so great to have some surf for the event!"
Madden who won the KOTGS (ireland) last year and went on to compete in France was unlucky with the waves this year. In the dyeing seconds he was piped at the post by young ripper Coner Maquire who is now taking the trip to Spain. In the Under 14's Gearoid Mc Daid won hands down and would have been a favourite for the U 16's. It was a great contest see you at Fistral.
Interview with Coner Maquire:
1. How does it fee l to win the KOTG ? I am so happy to win such a big event like this at my home beach with all my school friends watching.
2. You are off to Spain to compete in the KOTGS with some of the best surfers in Europe. Have you been outside of Ireland surfing? Not to Spain so l cant wait and to surf against some of the best in Europe it's amazing. Also Jeremy Flores is one of my favourite surfers in the world so it would be great to see him surf in France.
3. Favourite manoeuvre? Tail slide because when l have lots of speed its really easy to push the tail out.
4. Paces where you would like to surf in the world ? I would really like to go to Hawaii one day and surf pipeline and also the super bank where Joel and Mick fanning come from looks sick!!
