James has been obsessed with sport his entire life and struggles to go a day without some kind of activity. Board sports have dominated his life for as long as he can remember, skateboarding and snowboarding for a respectable 20 years whilst boasting an impressive 15 years experience in surfing. It was only after he had to change schools to complete his A-Levels that he discovered skateboarding, meeting up with a guy who taught him to ollie up curbs. Snowboarding soon followed after seeing a lone snowboarding shredding through powder on a family ski holiday back in 1988. These experiences changed his life and the predominant sports of football, rugby and cricket were instantly ditched for his new found obsession.

His motivation stems from adventures and spending time in remote and 'out of the way' places which give him the opportunity to look for new mountains and empty oceans to ride. Even an experienced rider like James believes that he is constantly learning after all this time in the business. "Even if riding wise it has slowed down a little, the mountains and the ocean provide a lifetime of learning."

His inspiration lies in professional skateboarders such as Tony Hawk, who at the age of forty is still riding high at the top of his sport. In snowboarding, "Teje and Nicolas Muller have it all, the ability to ride the whole mountain and throw freestyle tricks in on natural terrain." That to James is snowboarding.

His goals are to keep doing what he's doing now, going on adventures, riding the steepest mountains and biggest waves with good friends. As James says "I'm happiest on top of a remote mountain or in an empty ocean."
