He admits to a little bit of body boarding for 3 years before that, but few can laugh now when they see his smooth style flying across European and Global line-ups.
Competitively he has shone in all kinds of events at all kinds f places. His career highlights include charging the notorious Teahuppo, to being just seconds away from winning a World Title in the beach breaks in Brazil. In front of thousands of crazy surf fans Fredo proudly flew the Tricolour Flag to a second place at the World Championships.
Outside of the contest scene he has also appeared on numerous French TV Shows. One was with popular French singer Menelik for MCM, also a celeb TV show call « Ne le dis a personne » with Laurent Ruquier. In the printed press his image remains everywhere. He has scored five cover shots on Trip Surf and three on Surf Session Magazine. One of his proudest being a double page spread in Australian Tracks Magazine from ‘The Box’. He says, “I’m really stocked about this one because it was such a nice shot water shot from such a dangerous wave”.
Despite his favourite surf spots being St Leu, on his Island of Reunion, and Rags in the Mentawaii Islands of Indonesia. He can be happiest surfing La Piste, from his home in South West France, with his crew of close friends. Who does Fredo like to surf with? “ Well everybody who can push my level. All the boys like Miky, Patrick Beven, Jeremy, Sancho, and Romain Cloitre etc. I just don t like guys who hassle.” He says.
What’s next for Fredo? Well he’s taken a step back from the WQS Tour yet he’ll still compete in certain European Events. He wants to concentrate on chasing swells for media and magazines. He’s also ready to take on bigger waves and gain more experience in Tow Surfing. Fredo also wants to help pass on his experience to the younger members of the Quiksilver Team and junior surfers. Like his hero Shaun Thompson, Fredo will always remain the nice guy of surfing and will always bring a smile to any line-up you see him paddle into, be that anywhere from Iceland to Indonesia!
Some final words from Fredo, “I just want to thank Quiksilver for keeping my dreams alive!”
