"Want to win $10k and a whole lot of clout? Well then, let's talk about the 2019 Quiksilver Young Guns Surf Contest. With the help of our friends at Stab, we’re going on a mission to find the four best teenage surfers in the world. Then we’re sending them to stay at the La Point surf camp in Portugal and making one of them rich. Want in? All you have to do to win is surf your best — and make sure it’s documented. To enter, post a clip on Instagram, tagging @quiksilver and hashtagging #YGSurfContest. No longer are we looking for specific #YGAir, #YGRail or #YGCombo entries. This year, just put it all into one banger.
There are no guidelines on what to post — it’s up to you. Got a single wave you’re proud of? Fire it up. Feeling a vibey little edit after a few sessions? Cut it up and post. You’ll be judged on technical performance, creativity and flow. You can enter #YGSurfContest as many times as you’d like, but all of your entries will be judged individually.
Feeling inspired, but not sure if you have what it takes to make the Top 4? No worries. We’re also giving $1000 to the most creative entry. The creative entry award isn't about skill — it's all about having fun. So get out there and get weird!
One last thing: If you’re not under the age of 18 on November 10, 2019, then sorry, you’re out. On the flip side, you need to be 13 on August 1, 2019 to qualify."
You came. You rode. You posted. You maybe even conquered. The all-knowing staff at Stab judged it all, and here are the top 8 chosen ones. Meet your semi-finalists, and give all these dudes a round of applause - then get ready for the public voting.

The Final
Ah, Portugal.
The land of pastéis de nata. And fortresses. And world-class pointbreaks. And slabs. And beach break tubes. And perfect ramps. This place has it all — you just gotta bring a wetsuit, at least if you go this time of year.
It was the perfect destination for the 2019 Young Guns Surf Final.
This year, our finalists were Leo Casal, Luke Swanson, Oscar Berry and Levi Slawson. Four surfers from four different parts of the world. Two goofies. Two regulars. A fine mix. Don't worry, you'll meet them once you press play.
The final was hosted by part-time Portugal resident Kanoa Igarashi. When he wasn’t busy stealing waves off the kids, the former Young Gun kept his eye on all the action and ended up handing one of them a check for $10k.
This edit breaks down everything you need to know about Quiksilver’s Young Guns — from its inception to the crowning of this year’s champ.

Top 8
We’d love to send everyone who enters the #YGSurfContest on a sick trip to Portugal. But, unfortunately, we can’t do that — we still encourage you to go get tubed somewhere, though. Our friends at Stab will look at all the #YGSurfContest entries and trim them down to 8 hand-picked finalists, which will be announced on September 5.

Survived the first round? Nice work — you’re one step closer to the final.
The top 8 contestant’s clips will be posted on Quiksilver’s Instagram stories for voting. You’ll need to get your family, friends, fans and maybe even foes to vote for you by heading to @quiksilver.
The Young Gun with the most votes will move on to the final along with three others that will be hand-picked by Mikey Wright, Zeke Lau and Kanoa Igarashi. After that, it’s off to Portugal.
The Final
That dream of going on a trip and winning $10K and all that clout? This is where it comes true. You’ll hit Portugal the other finalists and spend a week surfing your brains out. How does the contest work? Easy. Best surfing wins.
And if you’re not one of the final four, don’t worry — we’ll be sharing the experience with you on @quiksilver’s Instagram and a short film that’ll make you feel like you were there. Because this year’s #YGSurfContest won’t be one to miss.
